Design

MOD Boston

Enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district and advocating for the improvement, historic preservation and re-use of existing buildings and architecture; the scope of the Design Committee includes our district’s buildings, streets, sidewalks, signs, parking, open space and all other aspects of the physical environment along the Washington Street business district.

A major project of the Design Committee was working with the city’s Transportation Department, residents and businesses to get the main Four Corners intersection at Bowdoin, Harvard and Washington Streets redeveloped. This project was completed in 2008 with new traffic signals, crosswalks, sidewalks and trees.

Additionally, 13 storefronts have been fully renovated in Four Corners through our Facade Improvement Program, directed by the Design Committee.

The committee also led the campaign to re-design Mother’s Rest Park and continues to work to bring the sculpted art of artist Jonathan Bonner to the park.
